According to the study, C-level executives turn to the Internet and business magazines as their primary sources of information. The study revealed that news-based websites are the top choice for C-level executives. In the past month 33% of the respondents had visited Yahoo! News, 19.5% had visited Google News, and 18.5% had visited MSNBC.com.
The study also showed that the Internet has not reduced the usage of other media types by C-level executives. A lot of America’s senior executives rely on national or local newspapers and cable TV for gathering information.
C-Level Executives Are Voracious Internet Users
Approximately 78% of surveyed C-level executives said they used the Internet to make their travel or flight reservations, while more than half of the respondents reported that they regularly bought products or services online.
Furthermore, the blogging interests of C-level executives cannot be ignored. The survey showed that 30% of the executives read blogs and 4% contributed to blogs. Apparently C-level executives are more engaged with social media than other individuals using the Internet.
Of the total respondents 68% said that in a month’s time they had downloaded videos or clips from websites or received email newsletters/alerts. 49% had streamed or watched broadband videos from websites.
Other Forms of New Media and Technology Adopted by C-Level Executives
Apart from using the Internet, C-level executives reported owning various high-tech gadgets. The adoption of new devices is a notable trend in the C-level sector.
The Business Elite Study found that:
- 71% of the respondents owned cell phones with cameras and multi-messaging.
- 68% had laptops.
- 60% had HDTV.
- 40% owned iPods.
- 36% used BlackBerry devices.
- 35% had satellite radio.
- 35% had used a DVR/TiVo to record or play back a TV program in the past month.
- Approximately 33% had watched video-on-demand in the past month.

According to the 2008 (ISC)2 Global Information Security Workforce Study, major data breaches are driving C-level executives to become actively involved in their organizations’ security policies. Tech-savvy CEOs, CFOs, and COOs are leaving no stone unturned when it comes to technological know-how and advancement.
